Ilaiyaraaja Says Airport Officials Were Only Doing Their Duty

Veteran music director Ilaiyaraaja, who had to undergo extensive security checks at the Bangalore Airport yesterday evening while returning from the Kollur Moogambiga temple with his family, has played down the issue saying that the security officers were only doing their duty. The security officers wanted to examine the coconuts he had brought as prasad from the temple. The situation escalated as media and fans began calling it a disrespectful act and accused the officials of ‘insulting’ Ilaiyaraaja.

In an interview with News 18, Ilaiyaraaja said that he did not like people claiming to be offended by trivial things, as in this instance. Ilaiyaraaja said that the incident had been being blown out of proportion, and that he was only asked to open the prasad packet and show them, which he had done. “They were only doing their duty. They come from different regions in India, leaving their families behind. We cannot expected them to know who is who. Just because i was checked at an airport doesn’t make me small, I am always Raja,” he said.
