The teaser of AR Murugadoss’s science fiction film Spyder released amid much fanfare on 1 June. With over four million views already, the teaser shows Mahesh Babu playing an Intelligence Bureau officer along with his six-legged friend-cum-gadget.

According to an IANS report in the Times of India, Mahesh Babu will fight bio-terrorism in this film. “Mahesh Babu takes on infectious agents with the help of hi-end technology. The film is very high on action and it features Mahesh in his most sophisticated avatar yet,” said a source from the film’s unit.
Bio-terrorism is a form of terrorism where the perpetrators intentionally release or disseminate hazardous biological agents. These agents are bacteria, viruses, or toxins, and may be in a naturally occurring or a human-modified form. Some films that explore this theme include last year’s Iru Mugan starring Vikram, Jayam Ravi’s Miruthan (2015), Vikram’s I (2015), Suriya’s 7aum Arivu (2011), and Kamal Haasan’s Dasavathaaram (2008).
Spyder also stars Rakul Preet, SJ Suriyah, Bharat, and RJ Balaji, and has music by Harris Jayaraj. The espionage thriller marks Mahesh’s Tamil debut as well. It is slated to release in September this year.
