The Iru Mugan team has issued a statement stating that lead actress Nayanthara was not detained at Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur airport, as reported by certain sections of the media. Nayanthara was returning to India from the sets of Iru Mugan. Certain news channels had reported that the airport officials had interrogated the actress regarding her work permit. Images of her passport have also been circulating on social media. The Iru Mugan team’s press release said:

“Work permit rules in Malaysia are different in the two terminals. Usually travellers to India travel through KL1. But the new airline (Malindo) operates from KL2. There, the immigration officials had a few clarifications [for her supporting team] on her work permit and its visa stamping. Later, Nayanthara herself spoke to the authorities and cleared [the matter] and the whole team travelled back to India smoothly.”
The team has lodged a complaint with the immigration department, asking them to investigate how images of Nayanthara’s passport reached social media sites. Nayanthara is now back in Kochi.
