Appa released in July this year and dealt with parenting, children’s education and how parents are most vital to moulding their child’s life. Samuthirakani also played the lead role of Dhayalan who believes in freedom for his child. The director added that it was Jayaram’s son, Kalidas who recommended the film to his father. “Kalidas suggested his father watch Appa. Jayaram saw the film and appreciated the content. He then expressed his interest in doing the film in Malayalam,” said Samuthirakani.

Samuthirakani is currently writing the script for the remake along with Padma Kumar. The script will have minor changes to suit Malayali sensibilities.

Actor Jayaram is currently filming for two Malayalam films as well as his Telugu  debut, Bhagmat, which will feature Asha Sharath as well. The actress is most popular for her role of a police officer in Jeethu Joesph’s Drishyam and it’s Tamil remake Papanasam.
