The film did better during the evening shows on Friday and is expected to pick up the pace on Saturday.

According to a report in Box Office India, ever since theatres opened after the relaxation of pandemic restrictions, the audience has shown more interest in bigger budget films like Sooryavanshi, RRR, and KGF: Chapter 2. Medium budget films have received lesser footfalls and the best performance in that category was by Antim – The Final Truth, which could still not collect more than Rs 5 crore on its first day.

In view of this, the performance of Jersey is quite decent and the film can be expected to hold up even against the strong competition from KGF 2.

Jersey is a remake of the 2019 Telugu sports drama of the same name, which was led by actor Nani. It is helmed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, who also directed the Telugu original. The film co-stars Mrunal Thakur and Pankaj Kapur in pivotal roles.

The film had been awaiting a release for a long time. It got delayed in December due to a surge in Covid-19 cases in the country. Before that, the originally scheduled release date had already been pushed from August 2020, due to the ongoing pandemic. The makers had announced that it would instead arrive around Diwali 2021, but it was pushed a third time, to December 31. Recently, too, the date was pushed from April 14 to April 22 due to an ongoing copyright case. However, it was reported that the makers wanted to avoid a clash with KGF: Chapter 2.

Meanwhile, Yash-starrer KGF 2 is still going strong at the box office and collected Rs 11.25 crore (nett) on its second Friday. According to BOI, the total collections of KGF 2 now are around Rs 274 crore (nett) and it remains on course to hit Rs 300 crore by the end of Sunday. The film is also closing in on the 100 crore mark in the Mumbai circuit. This will make it the third highest-grossing film ever in Mumbai, after Bahubali – The Conclusion and Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior.
