‘Kaala’ Plagiarism Case: Pa Ranjith, Rajinikanth Want More Time To Respond

Pa Ranjith, Rajinikanth have asked for more time to respond to the plagiarism case against their Kaala. The court has reportedly given a one-week extension to director Pa Ranjith and actor Rajinikanth to respond to this case. The hearing happened on June 15, following which the team was granted time till June 23 to issue a reply.

Earlier this month, assistant director Rajasekharan had accused Pa Ranjith, Dhanush and Rajinikanth of stealing his title, and plagiarising his script to make Kaala. The assistant director claimed that he had written a script based on King Karikala Cholan, and had even met Rajinikanth sir to discuss the script. While the film didn’t take off, he heard that Rajini had started a movie titled Kaala. Rajasekharan then came to the conclusion that Dhanush had stolen his script. He further claimed that the script had been altered and registered with the title at the South Indian Film Chamber Of Commerce.

In his petition, Rajasekharan has accused the chamber of “misusing the rules of registration, renewal and cancellation of the titles to favour some influential persons and disfavouring indigent persons.”

He also contended that another dispute over the title and knot of the story ‘Karikalan’ was pending in the city civil court and hence the matter was sub-judice.”

The film’s team is currently preparing for the second schedule of shooting slated to take place in Chennai soon. The first scheduled took place in Mumbai.

Kaala stars Rajinikanth and Huma Qureshi, with Samuthirakani and Anjali Patil playing pivotal roles. Actors Nana Patekar, Pankaj Tripathi, and several others have roles too. The music is composed by Santhosh Narayanan, who had previously composed for Kabali. G Murali will handle the cinematography.
