Distributor Of Kabali Alleges Non-Payment Of Dues By Producer Kalaipuli S Thanu

GP Selvakumar, a film distributor of the Rajinikanth-starrer Kabali, in south Arcot and Puducherry, has alleged non-payment of dues by producer Kalaipuli S Thanu, reported The News Minute. The report added that the matter came to light when posters near the actor’s Poes Garden residence in Chennai were put up stating ‘Will Rajinikanth, who has entered politics to save the people, save the family of GP Selvakumar, who has no way for his next meal and is on the streets with his family?’

During a press conference, the distributor alleged that despite the film making a huge profit, he was not paid his share. He claimed to have taken a loan of Rs 5 crores and he has been receiving threats from the lenders as he was unable to pay off his debts.

“I have been in serious financial trouble for the past 20 months. I had borrowed money for distributing the film, from financiers, but, I didn’t get back the amount that I had invested. I requested Thanu Sir to pay me, so that I can return that amount to my financiers. Thanu sir, my godfather have helped me in the past, but this time he has been delaying the payment for reasons that I am not aware of,” he said at the press conference. The distributor also threatened to end his life if he is not paid.

In a separate case, the Supreme Court recently ordered Rajinikanth’s wife Latha to repay a loan of Rs 6.20 crores with interest within 12 weeks to Ad Bureau, the company that had loaned a sum of Rs 10 crores to fund the 2014 animation film Kochadaiiyaan.
