Kalki Koechlin will make her Tamil debut with the Ajith starrer Nerkonda Paarvai, a remake of the Hindi film Pink. The movie is slated to release on August 10.
Born to French parents in Puducherry, Kalki Koechlin is fluent in Tamil. Rumours of her debut in the language have surfaced on numerous occasions in the past. Recent reports indicate that the actress would be making a special appearance through one of the songs in the courtroom drama.
Confirming the actress’ participation in the project, the official spokesperson for the movie said “Kalki Koechlin is part of the project.” However, he was tightlipped about the nature of her character. “Further details can be expected only after July.”
Apart from Ajith, who reprises Amitabh Bachchan’s role of the lawyer from the original, Nerkonda Paarvai features Shraddha Srinath, Abhirami Venkatachalam and Andrea Tariang, along with Vidya Balan in a cameo. The movie is directed by Theeran: Adhigaram Ondru fame H. Vinoth.

The film bagged the official remake rights of Bollywood’s Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu starrer Pink in January and is being produced by Boney Kapoor as a dedication to his late wife, actress Sridevi. The remake will reportedly be different from the original film as the makers are planning changes to the script for the Tamil audience to connect better to the film. This is yet to be confirmed.
In addition to Ajith Kumar, Vidya Balan, Sharaddha Srinath and others, the film may also star Adhik Ravichandran as one of the antagonists. Rangaraj Pandey might reprise Piyush Mishra’s role, the advocate who fought the case against Amitabh Bachchan in the original movie.
The movie went on floors in February and was originally scheduled to release on May 1, the birthday of Ajith. However, the film was delayed because only 30 percent of the shoot was completed as of March 10.
A first look poster was released last month.
