The tweets came on the heels of an uproar on social media with calls for UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to resign over the Gorakhpur tragedy. Over 60 children lost their lives at the BRD hospital in Gorakhpur. Haasan tweeted:

If one state’s CM should resign for a mishap & corruption under his govt. How come no party calls for resignation in TN. Enough crimes done

He also tweeted, “Unless and otherwise we get independence from corruption, we are still slaves. Those who have guts come, let’s join together for a new independence movement.”

Advocating for a better Tamil Nadu, he said “If no parties including DMK and ADMK don’t help, find other parties.”
