Actor Kamal Haasan has made a statement requesting the government to reduce the GST (Goods and Services Tax) on regional cinema. The tax is currently fixed at a whopping 28 percent.
Haasan took to Twitter to say he was not pressurising but rather pleading with the government.
Not pressurising. It's a plea & SOS from regional cinema to our FM We fear it will collapse. We request the council to do all to save it.

According to a Times of India report, the actor had urged Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to bring down the GST rate to 12-15 per cent. He also said he couldn’t afford the current tax rate and would be forced to quit.
“We should remember this is not East India Company,” he said, adding that Bollywood, Hollywood, and regional cinema shouldn’t be added in the same category.
