After seven months of hiatus, actor Kangana Ranaut has resumed shooting for Thalaivi– a bilingual biopic based on the life of late Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa.
The film was slated for a June 2020 theatrical release but shooting came to a halt as a result of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Ranaut, who has appeared in critically acclaimed films like Tanu Weds Manu, Queen and Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, took to social media on Thursday to announce that she was heading to “southern India” from Manali for the shoot.

A few days ago, Prashanna Babu, who is working as an assistant choreographer for the film posted a few pictures on social media from dance rehearsals with Ranaut and hinted that shooting for a song will begin very soon.
The film is being directed by AL Vijay and bankrolled under the Vibri Media and Karma Media and Entertainment banners headed by Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shailesh R Singh respectively. The film is expected to release in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. The film also stars Arvind Swami as veteran actor and former Tamil Nadu chief minister MGR.
The first look and the teaser, which released in November 2019, features a huge cut-out of Ranaut as the former chief minister.
The Bollywood actor will also be seen in Tejas, directed by Sarvesh Mewara, where she will be essaying the role of an Indian Air Force pilot.
