Shankar’s assistant and debutante filmmaker Karthik G Krish’s Kappal is a humour-laced story based on friendship, the makers have revealed. Vaibhav Reddy plays the lead and actress Sonampreet Bajwa plays his love interest. Vaibhav was apparently offered the script after the director was impressed with his performance in the Ajith starrer Mankatha. A model who contested for the Femina Miss India title in 2012, Sonampreet debuts in Tamil with Kappal and has been described by the director as ‘an absolute delight to work with.’
VTV Ganesh, Karunakaran, Arjunan Nandhakumar and Robo Shankar also play important roles in the film. Dinesh Krishnan who had earlier worked on films like Soodhu kavvum and Thegidi handles the camera. Natarajan Sankaran of Moodar koodam fame is the music director. Art director of Kalyana Samayal Sadham, Arusamy, editor Anthony, lyricists Karky and Kabilan and choreographer Dinesh form the rest of the crew members.
