Amid speculation that director Mani Ratnam is to revive his ambitious Ponniyin Selvan, news is doing the rounds that actor Karthi will be part of the star cast.
It has been reported that actor Karthi has signed up for an important role, but there is no official confirmation as of now. If confirmed, it will be the actor’s second collaboration with the director after Kaatru Veliyidai.

Earlier, an Iflicks report said that Ponniyin Selvan will star Vikram, Vijay Sethupathi and Jayam Ravi in the lead. Simbu is also in consideration for the film; if he is roped in, it will be his second with the director, after Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. Amitabh Bachchan has also reportedly been approached to play the role of Sundara Chola. The film is likely to be produced by Lyca Productions.
A source close to the film says, “Official word on the project will be out once Vijay Sethupathi finalises his dates. The actor confirmed his availability for the film immediately after Mani Ratnam told him he was planning to revive the project.”
The project was planned 15 years ago by Mani Ratnam. Various combinations were spoken about, from Vijay, Vikram and Mahesh Babu to Karthi and Ram Charan, before it was shelved.
Meanwhile on the work front, Karthi has Kaithi directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj of Maanagaram fame, and another with Bakkiyaraj Kannan, co-starring Rashmika Mandanna, which was launched with a pooja yesterday.

This project will see Rashmika of Kirik Party and Geetha Govindam fame make her Tamil debut. Bankrolled by SR Prabhu’s Dream Warrior pictures, this film will have music by Vivek-Mervin, the composer duo who scored for Gulaebaghavali and Mohini last year. The family entertainer also stars Yogi Babu and Mansoor Ali Khan.
