Konjam Pesinaal Yenna, the upcoming Tamil film led by actors Vinoth Kishan and Keerthi Pandian, will be a love story that aims to break stereotypes about women, says its director Girimurphy. The film’s title poster was released via social media on Wednesday.
The film marks the first collaboration of the two lead actors. Keerthi has previously starred in Anbirkiniyal, while Vinoth has been seen in films like Naan Mahaan Alla, Andhaghaaram, and Imaikkaa Nodigal.
Konjam Pesinaal Yenna marks the directorial debut of Girimurphy, who has assisted cinematographer Om Prakash in Maari and Aramm, and it is produced by Sameer Bharat Ram.
Speaking to Silverscreen India about the upcoming film, Girimurphy says, “The producer contacted me after seeing my short films. He asked if I could work on a love story and I pitched this one, which he liked. We then developed it.”
“I like to make films rooted in reality. Konjam Pesinaal Yenna is a story about a girl who likes a boy at her school, but she doesn’t express her feelings. Whether she is able to get together with him, later in life, when the boy is not even aware of the girl’s existence, is the crux of the story. Usually, movies portray men pursuing women, but I have reversed the idea. I would like to break the stereotypes of female characters in films and also avoid their objectification in item songs and such,” the filmmaker explains.
Girimurphy, who wrote the script during the 2020 pandemic-induced lockdown, says that the story is based on personal incidents from his life. “Both characters are based on what I have witnessed. Keerthi Pandian plays the role of a fashion designer. I felt she would be apt for this role.”

The cast also includes VJ Aashiq and Akash Premkumar, as well as some newcomers. “We wanted to cast fresh faces and conducted workshops for them before we began shooting,” says Girimurphy.
The film went on floors in 2021 and was wrapped up in February this year. Lenin A has handled the cinematography and Konjam Pesinaal Yenna was shot mainly in Chennai with some portions also filmed in Bengaluru and Madurai. The film is edited by Dhanasekar.
Deepan Chakravarthy has composed the music and the film will feature five songs from different genres.
Konjam Pesinaal Yenna is currently in post-production and the team is looking for a release later this year. The mode of release – whether theatrical or OTT – has not been decided as yet.
After this film, Girimurphy will be working on a script set against a college backdrop.
