A leaked video from the shoot of Meghna Gulzar’s Chhapaak, featuring Deepika Padukone as an acid attack survivor, and Vikrant Massey, has gone viral. In the leaked video, the actress is seen riding on a bike with Massey, and alighting from it. She sports prosthetic makeup on her face.
The film is based on real-life acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, and shooting had begun during the Holi weekend. Meghna Gulzar had said that she planned to explore the consequences of acid-related violence in the society. The project also marks Padukone’s debut as a producer. She said she was deeply moved by the story.
Vikrant Massey is reportedly be gaining weight for the movie. He has gained close to 8kg and would be putting on another 3kg as the shoot progresses. A working still from the movie has also gone viral.
The first look poster of the film had released last month released. It featured Deepika as her character Malti, with a bright smile on her face. She had captioned the photo ‘A character that will stay with me forever.’
Laxmi Agarwal, who was attacked at the age of 15, later helped other acid attack survivors and also spread awareness about the violence on women. She was a recipient of the US State Department’s International Women of Courage Award in 2014. It was given by the then First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama.
Laxmi Agarwal had said that she was glad Deepika Padukone was playing her role in the movie. “I am so happy that Deepika is playing the role… She has played wonderful characters on screen and I believe she will give her best.” The actress was last seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat that released in January last year.
Chhapaak releases on January 10 next year.
