Actors Marion Cotillard, Jude Law, and Josh O’Connor will join Kate Winslet in the upcoming biographical film Lee, directed by Ellen Kuras.
The film is based on the life of World War II photographer Lee Miller, who left her lucrative career as a Vogue model to become a photographer chronicling the horrors of the second world war.
It is adapted from author Antony Penrose’s book The Lives of Lee Miller.
Lee marks the second collaboration between Winslet and Kuras. Previously, Ellen Kuras worked as the cinematographer for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
According to a report by Deadline, Winslet will essay the titular role while Cotillard will play Solange D’Ayen, the fashion director of French Vogue. Jude Law is all set to star as artist-poet Roland Penrose and O’Connor will play his and Lee’s son Antony Penrose.
The film is also set to star English actor Andrea Riseborough who will play former British Vogue editor Audrey Withers.
The script is being written by Liz Hannah. She is also the movie’s executive producer alongside Winslet.

Lee will specifically focus on the photographer’s experiences during the second world war. Speaking about this, Kate Winslet told Deadline, “This is absolutely not a biopic. To make a story about Lee’s whole life, that’s a series worth for HBO. What we wanted to do was find the most interesting decade in her life, the one that defined who she was and what she became because of what she went through. It was the period from 1938-1948 that took her right through the war and her most defining time. That is the story we want people to know about Lee more than the many other parts of her life.”
Meanwhile, Winslet recently won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Actress in a Limited Series for her performance in Mare of Easttown while Josh O’Connor won an Emmy for his portrayal of Prince Charles in The Crown.
