Lingaa‘s director KS Ravikumar has been asked to respond to the lawsuit against the film. Mullaivanam 999 director Ravi Rathinam had petitioned a court in Madurai alleging that the story-line of Lingaa had many similarities with his script, and asked the court to ban its release. Ravi Rathinam also added that he launched Mullaivanam 999 in February this year and that shooting is almost over. He’d planned to release it on January 1, 2015, but was shocked to hear that someone had already made a film with the same plot as his.

With the audio launch of Lingaa just days away, the case has come as a surprise to the cast and crew. The publicist told us that KS Ravi Kumar and his team are formulating a response to the lawsuit and will fight it legally.
The Producers’ Council secretary, T Siva has come out strongly against such lawsuits and said, “Kaththi issue has not died down, and we wake up to yet another big film being attacked like this. How can someone ban the release of a movie based on hearsay? That too without watching the film? This has become an unhealthy trend and needs to be stopped. The future of Tamil cinema is at stake.”
