The official trailer of Lisaa 3D, a horror film directed by newcomer Raju Viswanath, released recently. The film stars Anjali in the lead along with Makarand Deshpande, Sam Jones and others. Music is by Santhosh Dhayanidhi, and SN Fazil is the editor. The film has been shot in 8K format, and it will release in 3D in Tamil and Telugu on May 24.
In the trailer, Anjali and Sam Jones’ characters arrive at her grandparents’ house in a hill station, a place remembered for a murder that took place ages ago. They soon realise that unusual events are taking place around them, and without revealing much about the story, the trailer builds the suspense around this. As they try to find out more, a voiceover says that who or what they’re looking for is right in front of them. Makarand Deshpande, Yogi Babu and Brahmanandam feature in the trailer. Mime Gopi, Sam Jones, Saleema, Surekha Vani, Sabbita Roi and Kalyani Natarajan play supporting roles.
Speaking to Silverscreen, director Raju Viswanath said Lisaa is not a typical horror film. “The cliches of a haunted house, a ghost and flashback into the ghost’s life… you won’t see all that in this film. It’s a horror film, but there’s also a story that will move you.”

Work on the film began in June last year. It was shot in Puducherry, Hyderabad and Kodaikanal. The director says that right from the start, he had Anjali in mind to play the lead. “When I approached her, she listened to a one-line narration and agreed to do the part. Makarand, a famous writer, director and actor, picks his films with care. He has a pivotal role in the movie and his screen presence will remind us of Raghuvaran sir. He’s given a flawless performance. Sam Jones, Yogi Babu and the rest of the team have also worked really well.”
The film was shot with a stereoscopic camera to enhance the 3D experience. “When you watch it in the theatre, you’ll feel like there’s a ghost two rows above yours, or like someone walked right behind you.” Raju says the music and background score is a big plus point for the horror film. “Composer Santhosh Dhayanidhi worked with clarity, and also taught me a lot about music. We had initially planned just one song in the film, but seeing how apt our lyricist Mani Amudhavan’s work was for the film, we decided to add three more.”
The film is bankrolled by PG Media Works, and producer PG Muthaiah has also worked as the film’s cinematographer.
