Madhoo Shah will be reuniting with her Roja co-star Arvind Swami after 28 years for the upcoming film Thalaivi.
She will be playing the role of MGR’s wife Janaki in the film.
Thalaivi is a bilingual biopic on the life of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. The movie is directed by AL Vijay, who has also directed Deivathirumagal and Madrasapattinam.
She confirmed the news in an interview with Navbharat Times. Shah said that while she had never met Janaki, she had met Jayalalithaa.
“I have never met Janaki Amma, but have met Jayalalithaa. She had given me the State Award for my film Roja. When I went on the stage, she had said that she liked my performance in Roja,” she said.
Shah also talked about the director of the film, Vijay, and said: “The director has recorded all the nuances required to play the role of Janaki Amma in a video. Before shooting, he showed us the video and asked me to reprise the character according to it.”

While actor Kangana Ranaut will be playing the role of Jayalalithaa, Poorna will be playing the role of Jayalalithaa’s close aide – VK Sasikala. Prakash Raj will be playing the role of M Karunanidhi, Bengali actor Jisshu Sengupta will take on the role of Sobhan Babu.
Thalaivi, bankrolled by Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shaailesh R Singh, was slated for a June 2020 theatrical release. However, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the release was postponed. After a hiatus of seven months of hiatus, Ranaut resumed shooting for the movie on September 29.
Shah was last seen in College Kumar, the 2020 Tamil remake of the 2017 Kannada movie of the same name.
Ranaut is also working on Tejas, directed by Sarvesh Mewara, where she will be depicting the role of an Indian Air Force pilot.
