Indu Sarkar has been in trouble from the time it went to the CBFC for certification, with the largest resistance coming from members of the Indian National Congress, who believe the film will tarnish the reputation of the party, and misrepresent the Emergency period, during which then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her family assumed almost absolute powers. Yesterday, members of the party barricaded Madhur Bhandarkar and his team at a hotel in Pune, where they had gone for promoting the film. Similar events in other cities had to be cancelled after threats of protest by members of the Congress party.
Following this, Madhur has requested Rahul Gandhi to intervene and call off his party members’ protests, and allow his film to release without a hitch.
