Mammootty’s ‘Bheeshma Parvam’ Crosses Rs 30 Crores in India on Day 7

Bheeshma Parvam, the Mammooty-starrer that released on March 3, has collected over Rs 30 crores at the Indian box-office in its first week, according to a Pinkvilla report.

The film has also earned more than Rs 23 crores outside India, taking its worldwide collection to roughly Rs 53.50 to 54 crores. With this, Bheeshma Parvam has become the ninth highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time, ahead of the Vineeth Sreenivasan-directorial Hridayam, which had collected around Rs 52.30 crores globally in 25 days.

Directed and produced by Amal NeeradBheeshma Parvam is written by Neerad in association with Devadath Shaji and Ravi Shankar. Aside from Mammootty, who plays the family head Michael, the film features an ensemble cast that includes Nadiya MoiduSoubin ShahirDileesh PothanSrindaa, Lena, and Sreenath Bhasi, among several others.

The film draws from the Indian epic Mahabharata and narrates the saga of the Anjootti family. In her review for Silverscreen India, Aswathy Gopalakrishnan said, “Like Bheeshma, who vowed to protect his family, even by covering up the misdeeds of some of its members, Michael devotes himself to Anjootti, to keep the family together and its name untainted.”

Bheeshma Parvam opened in 406 screens with 1775 shows and garnered around Rs 6 crores in Kerala on its first day, and approximately Rs 50 lakhs in the rest of India.

It is notable that ahead of the film’s release, Kerala government had relaxed its Covid-19 restrictions and permitted cinema halls to operate at 100% seating capacity. Theatres in the state had earlier been functioning at 50% occupancy since October 2021.

Bheeshma Parvam has turned out to be highest grosser of the year in Kerala with a collection of approximately Rs 27.50 to 27.75 crores in the state. It surpassed Hridayam, starring Pranav MohanlalKalyani Priyadarshan and Darshana Rajendran, which collected Rs 25.90 crores in the state.

Bheeshma Parvam is also expected to overtake Dulquer Salmaanstarrer Kurup, which earned around Rs 32.20 crores in Kerala, to become the state’s biggest grossing film in the pandemic era. Kurup was the first big Malayalam film to release in theatres after the second wave of Covid-19.
