A film titled Maratha Samugam on the gruesome murder of Sankar is in the pipeline, it’s poster was recently released. The film will reportedly be directed by Pankaj S Balaji.

A video had surfaced in March 2016, in which three men were seen attacking Sankar, a Dalit, and his wife Kausalya near a busy road in Udumalpet, Tamil Nadu.
Sankar was hacked to death and Kausalya escaped with grievous injuries. The brutal murder was considered to be honour killing after Kausalya said that her father was opposed to the marriage and had threatened Sankar.
A few days back, a Tirupur district court sentenced six people to death, including the woman’s father, in connection with the murder.
