The film stars Amitabh Bachchan and Rakul Preet Singh alongside Devgn.

Talking to Silverscreen India, a source requesting anonymity confirmed that Devgn, who is also directing and producing the film, has gone to Russia with his cinematographer Aseem Bajaj, director’s assistant Daanish Gandhi, first assistant director Sameer Sadwani, and line producer Vikrant Sharma.

“While the plan earlier was to shoot the last leg in Doha or Dubai in May, it was cancelled due to travel restrictions. Now, the location has been shifted to Russia. After a month or so of prep, the main crew will fly there and begin shooting. Devgn has made sure that everyone who is heading to Russia is vaccinated,” said the source.

The source also revealed that some major scenes will be shot at one of the airports in Moscow.

While it has not been confirmed yet, reports have stated that Mayday is inspired by the emergency landing of the Doha-Kochi Jet Airways flight in 2015.

142 passengers and eight crew members of a Jet Airways flight from Doha to Kochi had a narrow escape in August 2015 when the plane landed at Trivandrum airport without the mandatory reserve fuel requirement. Aviation Safety Network states that when the plane’s engine shut down the fuel onboard was only 349 kg. According to a report in Mint, the minimum fuel reserve a Boeing 737 aircraft should have is about 1,500 kg.

The report mentions that the Jet Airways flight made three go-arounds due to bad weather and could not land at Kochi. Later, due to poor visibility and low fuel, the pilot decided to take a diversion to Trivandrum citing a “fuel emergency” rather than taking it to the nearest airport, which was Bangalore. The flight only had 270 kg of air fuel left at the time of landing at Trivandrum.

Mayday, which went on floors in December 2020, is slated to release on April 29, 2022.

Meanwhile, Devgn has a few other projects lined up as well. He is set to make an extended cameo appearance in SS Rajamouli’s RRR. He will also be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, which stars Alia Bhatt in the lead.
