The Kolkata Police arrested actor Vikram Chatterjee late Thursday night in connection with the death of model Sonika Chauhan. Chauhan passed away in a fatal car crash in April this year.
Chatterjee, who was driving the car that resulted in the accident, was charged with culpable homicide last week under the non-bailable section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code. The car, a Toyota Corolla Altis, was allegedly driven by Chatterjee at a dangerously high speed.
According to an NDTV report, Chatterjee will be presented before the court today.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Vishal Garg, told Indian Express that the high speed of the car will be considered as a deliberate act. “The reports have proved that car was at a high speed. This can be considered a deliberate act; hence we moved court and court accepted our prayer. We have booked Vikram under Section 304 of IPC,” he said.
The two were driving back home from a party at around 3:30 am on April 29, when the car hit a pavement and flipped. While Chatterjee denied driving under the influence, he later admitted that he had consumed some alcohol.
