The makers of the upcoming Narendra Modi biopic recently recreated the infamous Godhra train burning incident, by setting a mock coach on fire. The actual incident happened on February 27, 2002, when Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. It claimed the lives of 59 passengers and led to the Godhra riots.
According to IE, the team recreated this scene between Pratap Nagar and Dabhoi railway line in Vadodara. Permission was granted by Western Railways and Vadodara fire department.
“Permission was given to shoot the documentary film here. It was shot at the narrow gauge Vishwamitri railway station. No rail traffic was affected in the process of the shoot and the bogie being used was provided by us. It is a mock-drill bogie and was unused,” said Western Railway PRO Khemraj Meena.
The film, directed by Omung Kumar, traces the life of Modi from his early years to becoming the Chief Minister of Gujarat, and his subsequent victory in the 2014 general elections. The movie features Vivek Oberoi in the role of the Prime Minister, and Zarina Wahab as his mother. Prashant Narayan and Boman Irani are also part of the cast.

Benchmark Productions, the company financing the movie, wrote in their request seeking permission for shoot: “On March 3, we are shooting a biopic (autobiography) documentary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the old railway station of Pratap Nagar-Dabhoi railway line next to Zenith school. Please provide us with one fire tender along with staff at the location. We are willing to pay the fees for the service as decided by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation.”
Jayraj Gadhvi, the supervising executive who signed the letter seeking fire tenders from the Vadodara Municipal Corporation, said, “It is a biopic documentary that captures the life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This particular scene speaks of the challenges he faced. The Railways has given us the coach to shoot the scenes outside the train, which shows the burning coach. The scenes from inside the train will be shot at a film set in Mumbai.”
