Mumbai Sessions Court Rejects Alok Nath’s Anticipatory Bail Plea

Alok Nath’s application for anticipatory bail has been rejected by a sessions court in Mumbai. A TV Producer, Vinta Nanda, filed a police complaint against the actor for sexual harassment and rape. Nanda, in a harrowing #MeToo post, made the allegations against Nanda in October 2018. Later, she filed a complaint. An FIR was registered by the police recently, spurring Nath to apply for an anticipatory bail.

His application having been rejected by the court, he can be arrested anytime now.

During the proceedings of this case, Vinta Nanda hit back at criticism from rape-accused Alok Nath’s lawyer that she took too long to come out and accuse the actor of sexual harassment and rape.

Nanda said that she made the allegations against Nath as part of the second wave of the #MeToo movement. And that at the time she spoke out, she did not know that she would open a ‘pandora’s box’.

Deccan Chronicle quotes her as saying:

“When I came out with the truth in October 2018, other than what he had done to me, I was only aware about Alok Nath having harassed Navneet Nishan relentlessly for over four years during the making of Tara. But soon after that, when I heard what he had done with Sandhya Mridul, Deepika Amin, Himani Shivpuriji and several others I realised that we were not the only two he had bullied.”

She also said that the whole issue was beyond her now. “Here is a serial offender we’re talking about, one who was vicious and unpardonably volatile in his behaviour with every powerful woman he encountered in his work space. Let time reveal the truth.”

Nanda disclosed the identity of the male actor through a text message to IANS. Nanda says she took 19 years to overcome the trauma caused by the actor.
