At an event hosted for Vaanam Arts Festival, Pa Ranjith said, “’Magizhchi’ has come out really well. I feel that this would be a milestone moment for The Casteless Collective. They’ve reached many hearts and now, they will reach many homes.”
Vaanam Arts Festival organised by Neelam Foundation happened on December 29, 30 and 31 in Chennai. It showcased performances and art installations, all of which spoke about casteism. The works of Ambedkar, Periyar and Karl Marx were featured. Jignesh Mevani, a Dalit rights activist and an MLA from Gujarat, and many other activists participated in the event.

The highlight of the event was the launch of ‘Magizhchi’. The Casteless Collective was formed in 2017 with 19 members. Their songs speak strongly against caste, and they portray diversity and equality with their lyrics and music. They do rap. hip-hop, gaana, and cinema strains. They mostly use instruments like katte and chatti. They have songs on the vision of BR Ambedkar, songs against manual scavenging, slavery, and those about beef curry, and more.
Neelam Foundation also opened the Koogai library recently. Apart from housing books on cinema and curated collections from several filmmakers, the library is also a performance space that hosts discussions on movies and other cultural events.
