Directed by Srikanth Addala, the Telugu action drama is a remake of the Tamil film Asuran, which is  based on the novel Vekkai by Poomani. The film starred Dhanush and Manju Warrier in lead roles and the story touched upon social issues such as caste oppression, land issues, and discrimination.

In the Telugu version, Venkatesh will portray the role of Naarappa while Priyamani will play the role of his wife. In the Tamil version, Warrier played the role of Dhanush’s wife.
