Nadigar Sangam Takes On Internet-Based Film Criticism

Nadigar Sangam is taking a strong stand against unqualified film critics who publish their reviews over the internet. Over the past few months, producers have become increasingly disgruntled with the quality of film reviews found online. Several members of the film fraternity have already voiced their displeasure at these critics and have filed many complaints with the Producer’s Council. The latest to join the fray is Nadigar Sangam. Through a press release earlier this week, the Sangam and its President Nasser warned online critics that strict action would be taken if they continue to review films ‘irresponsibly’.

Nasser, in an interview with Silverscreen, said: “With the advent of the internet, anybody can create a website and consider themselves an authority on cinema. People with no knowledge or experience of the ins and outs of the industry, take it upon themselves to criticise. Earlier, only people with formal training wrote reviews. That is not the case now. There’s no respect or integrity in the profession any longer.”

Nasser also appreciated the efforts made by a few to curb such critics. “A producer I know and respect has already begun to lobby for action against such irresponsible people. A lot of sweat and blood goes into making these films. A majority of film organisations have already registered their disapproval with such critics. It is expected that they will all come together to discuss the issue and bring about effective measures to control it,” he said.
