Natchathiram Nagargirathu: Pa Ranjith’s Next to Feature Dushara Vijayan in a Female-Centric Love Story

Filmmaker Pa Ranjith, who is currently basking in the success of his recent released Tamil period sports drama Sarpatta Parambarai, has begun shooting for his next film titled Natchathiram Nagargirathu, a source close to the production team informed Silverscreen India on condition of anonymity.

However, the film has not been officially announced yet.

The source mentioned that the film will have an ensemble star cast that includes Kalidas Jayaram, Ashok Selvan, Dushara Vijayan, and Shabeer Kallarakkal.

Notably, this Tamil film will mark the director’s return to a romance script after his directorial debut Attakathi (2012).

Attakathi was a boy’s love story, whereas this film will be a female-oriented one revolving around Dushara’s character. It is a love story. However, it will be completely different from Attakathi. There will be new faces also in the cast. It is a film set in modern-day Chennai,” the source said.

Natchathiram Nagargirathu will be the second collaboration of the filmmaker with both Dushara and Shabeer, who shot to fame for essaying the roles of Mariyamma and Dancing Rose, respectively, in Sarpatta Parambarai. But it is the first project with Ranjith for the male leads, Kalidas and Ashok.

The source said the film’s shooting began in Chennai on July 21, just a day before the release of Sarpatta Parambarai. “All the lead actors are part of the ongoing schedule which is happening in Chennai. This schedule will go on until August 10 and it will be followed by a break before the next schedule. The film is set to be shot in Pondicherry as well.”

The music composer of the film has not yet been fixed, but is likely to be Ranjith’s regular collaborator Santhosh Narayanan.

Natchathiram Nagargirathu is set to be jointly produced by Ranjith’s home banner Neelam Productions and Yaazhi Films, which previously backed the 2021 Tamil psychological thriller Kuthiraivaal along with the filmmaker.
