A teaser of actor Nayanthara’s 63rd movie Airaa released on Saturday. Written and directed by KM Sarjun, the film stars Nayanthara in a double role for the first time in her career.
The one minute twenty second teaser shows us Nayanthara’s two characters – one of them looks bolder and is probably based in a city, the other character is more feeble. Both have their own fears. With dialogues like, “Marupadiyum potta pulla porandhurukku anne, (a girl child is born again)” and, “Enn thala ezhutha enaku yaarune theriyadha aaru peru maathi kirukki ezhudhirukanga (six strangers have re-written my fate),” the teaser suggests that the film might focus on women’s issues.
The story seems to revolve around a woman who feels unloved, and like with Sarjun’s other films (Laksmi which was about extra marital affair, and Maa was about teenage abortion), we see the director attempting to portray what women go through in Airaa. Apart from showing Nayanthara’s two characters with visibly different personalities, we also see cuts to black and white scenes to differentiate her second character from the first.
The film is produced by KJR studios, who had earlier financed Nayanthara’s Aramm. Sudarsan Srinivasan, Sundaramurthy KS, Priyanka Ravindran, Karthik Jogesh, Siva Sankar and Yogi Babu play supporting roles. Music for the film is by KS Sundaramurthy, the composer of 8 Thottakal.

Nayanthara, who is known to pick films that have women in important characters, was recently seen in Maya, Aramm, Kolamaavu Kokila, Dora and Imaikkaa Nodigal. Airaa is her third horror-thriller film after Maya and Dora, both of which were well-received for her performance.
Her upcoming films include the thriller Kolayuthir Kaalam, directed by Chakri Toleti. She plays the female lead in Ajith’s Viswasam directed by Siva, in Sivakarthikeyan’s yet-to-be titled film by director Rajesh, in the Malayalam film Love Action Drama, directed by Dhyan Sreenivasan, and in the Telugu period drama, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy.
