SJ Suryah ‘s next film Monster will be directed by Nelson Venkatesan. The actor, in conversation with Silverscreen, said that the film’s title might mislead the audience into thinking that it is a horror film.
“But it is not. There’s a thread of humour woven into the script. Nelson has written a very unique role for me. When he met me for the narration, he told me that it will change my image.”
SJ Suryah, who has been seen in negative roles for the past few years, plays the male lead in Monster. Meyadha Maan fame Priya Bhavani Shankar is the female lead.
The motion poster of the film was launched recently. Its title features cheese, with a curious mouse trying to eat it. SJ Suryah added that the film will feature kid friendly content.
“Children will like it. It’s fun. It’s not your typical family oriented movie but one you can watch with your family. That’s what we have tried to do with Monster. Nelson has shown exactly what he wanted to without compromising.”
Nelson’s previous film Oru Naal Koothu had an ensemble cast. Likewise, SJ Suryah ‘s movies in the past few years, including Mersal, Nenjam Marappathillai, feature several actors. Monster will be different for both.
“That way, it’s a new experience for both Nelson and myself. I can say that the film revolves around three important characters. Nobody else is there except myself, Karunakaran and Priya Bhavanishankar.”

SR Prabhu is financing the movie through his Potential Studios banner. The film was launched in late 2017. The shoot has been wrapped up with Nelson and his team busy with post-production duties. Gokul Benoy is the cinematographer for the movie. Justin Prabhakaran is the music director.
At present, SJ Suryah has Uyarndha Manidhan with Amitabh Bachchan and Iravakaalam with Maya director Ashwin Saravanan. His long delayed Nenjam Marappathillai, Selvaraghavan’s attempt at making a horror film, has still not released. Suryah said that the film will release when the time comes. “We can’t predict these things. The film industry is going through such a weird phase.”
