Rajkummar Rao’s upcoming film Newton‘s trailer is out, and as usual, the actor impresses.
When the trailer begins, the reason behind his name remains a mystery. But towards the end of the trailer, it is revealed that while he didn’t understand much of Issac Newton’s works at a younger age, he understands now. And also because he renamed himself Newton in class 10, when his name is actually Nutan Kumar.
The trailer opens to Rao’s Newton seated next to a young girl with their parents present. The two families are seeking out a rishta (alliance) for these unmarried youngsters. But there’s something off, he notices. It’s a ‘no’ from him.
“She’s a minor,” he answers nonchalantly, while the parents appear stumped.
Newton is that man who does things as per the system, and things that he feels right. Knowing that he’s definitely more smarter than the rest, he isn’t exactly a know-it-all but does assert his authority when necessary.
“You know what your problem is, Newton? Your arrogance about your sincerity,” says Sanjay Mishra’s character.
He couldn’t be more right as we get to see just that, where Newton tries hard to “change” the system, even found running from armed army men with EVMs, guarding it with great difficulty.

Realising that everyone’s making a mockery out of the system, he realises he has to change things, but is clueless how to go about it. “If you change nothing, friend. Nothing will ever change,” he narrates while biting into an apple.
The film is set in the jungles of Chhattisgarh and is about how a young man is trying to conduct a free and fair election there. Pankaj Tripathi plays an army general. The film also stars Raghubir Yadav, and Anjali Patil and is set to hit the screens on September 22.
