The trailer of Shoojit Sircar’s next – October – is out, featuring Varun Dhawan essaying the role of Dan and newcomer Banita Sandhu as Shiuli. The two are hotel management trainees, who make conversation while cleaning people’s room and laundry. Years later, Shiuli is found in the ICU.
The life-changing incident leaves Dan dedicating his time in helping Shiuli stand back on her feet. In one scene, Dan checks a urine sample of a patient in the ICU and we see the name tag of Shiuli on it, assuming it could be Banita.
Sircar, who has so far proven his fondness for bodily fluids (Piku) has made sure that even this romantic drama has some light moments associated with it. The trailer is soothing and has perfectly captured the language of love, as books do. Banita does not have a lot of dialogues in the trailer, but her eyes are the most expressive and seem to light up whenever Dhawan’s Dan is around.
The two and half minute trailer talks of an unconventional love story, based on two ordinary people. Varun is neither packing punches nor is he showing off his ripped abs. He is shown as a slightly snarky, yet sensitive guy who is concerned about Shiuli.

Talking about his experience, Varun said that it was so enriching that he wishes to reunite with Sircar after this. “The beautiful thing even after doing this film is that he is still on my wish-list. I want to work with him again and again. There is always a message in his films. And this film too had one, which I never knew how to tell people… Subconsciously I wanted to say this to the people. We want to say something that is right in front of you in life and we never learn from it,” he says.
Intense scenes along with a peek into the locales of this winter romance, October is reportedly based on a news clipping Sircar came across a few years ago. The film went on floors in October last year.
Produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar, the film is slated for an April 13 release.
