Filmmaker Vignesh Shivan and actor Nayanthara’s next production venture is titled Oorkuruvi, their banner Rowdy Pictures announced on social media on Friday on the occasion of Dusshera.
The film will star actor Kavin, who was last seen in the recently-released horror film Lift, in the lead role. It is set to be directed by debutant filmmaker Arun Patrician, who has previously worked as an assistant director under Vignesh Shivan on Thaana Serndha Koottam and with filmmaker Ajay Gnanamuthu on Demonte Colony and Imaikka Nodigal.
Speaking to Silverscreen India, Arun reveals that his upcoming film will be a comedy drama. The debutant, who has also written the script, adds that the story is set in a rural backdrop. “The film is set in southern rural Tamil Nadu and it is inspired by true events. I took certain real incidents and fictionalised them.”
Arun notes that he has been working on this project since 2020. “I spoke to Vignesh about the story early this year. He liked it and asked me to work on it further. He also decided to produce it under his own banner.”

“It was Vignesh’s idea to cast Kavin in the lead role, and I too felt that he would be apt for it,” says the filmmaker, who adds that aside from Kavin, the rest of the cast is yet to be finalised. “We are still in talks and an announcement will be made soon.” Arun further says that all the primary characters will be played by known faces.
Oorkuruvi is currently in the pre-production stage. The team is busy location scouting, says the director, adding that they are looking to film in south Tamil Nadu as well. “We plan to go on floors with the film this year,” he mentions.
The makers are yet to announce the technical crew of Oorkuruvi.
