Oru Policekaarante Maranam, the upcoming Malayalam film starring actors Soubin Shahir and Urvashi in the lead roles, is a ‘whodunit’ murder mystery, the film’s director Remya Aravind told Silverscreen India.
The film was officially launched in Ernakulam with a pooja ceremony earlier this week. Produced by Vaishaka Rajan under the Vaishaka Cynyma banner, the film is Remya’s directorial debut.
Speaking to Silverscreen India, Remya said, “Oru Policekaarante Maranam falls under the ‘Whodunit’ genre. It is a murder mystery story but it won’t have dark thriller elements. Soubin and Urvashi will be essaying police officers roles in the film.”
About the casting, Remya said that she had Urvashi on her mind while writing the script and had been acquainted with Soubin for some years now. “I wanted to write a professional woman character. Mostly we have seen her (Urvashi) play domestic characters and I thought it would be very fresh and interesting to see her play this role,” Remya added.
The director said that she began working on this project in early 2020. She added that the film would go on floors in mid-January and will be shot in Idukki.
Before donning the director’s hat, Remya worked as an assistant and associate to filmmaker Shyamaprasad. “I started with Ritu in 2009 and then I went on to work in films like Elektra, Arike and English: An Autumn in London. I also worked as an associate to director Anjali Menon in Banglore Days. After that, I started writing and began my journey to become an independent filmmaker.”
Meanwhile, actor Soubin, announcing the film on social media, wrote, “This film gives me the opportunity to work with one of the finest talents in India, the evergreen actor Urvashi Chechi.”
Soubin who was last seen in Irul has a slew of projects in the pipeline including Meow, Jack and Jill, Bro Daddy, Djinn and Bheesma Parvam. Soubin will also be making his second directorial feature titled Othiram Kadakam starring Dulquer Salmaan.
On the other hand, the National-Award winning actor Urvashi has a bunch of upcoming projects in Malayalam and Tamil. It was recently announced that she will reunite with filmmaker Priyadarshan for a Tamil film titled Appatha. The two last worked together on the 1993 film Midhunam. Appatha is said to be Urvashi’s 700th film.
