With PadMan set to release on February 9, Akshay Kumar seems to have taken up the cause of menstrual hygiene. He has teamed up with YouTuber Aranya Johar to bring out the message that “women can bleed and succeed”.
He shared a video on Facebook with the hashtag ‘BleedingRani’ to encourage young girls to not be apprehensive about menstruation.

Aranya Johar came to spotlight last year with her video ‘A Brown Girl’s Guide to Gender’ on Women’s Day. The YouTube channel UnErase poetry had earlier released this video but she has performed the act on several different occasions.
In the video, Akshay Kumar is heard saying a dialogue from PadMan, “Women strong, mother strong, sister strong and then country strong”. The video ends with a strong statement from Aranya: “Only a bleeding woman can bond you and I and only a bleeding woman is compared to comply” to which Akshay Kumar replies, “This is not just her story, its the story of every girl because all women are in fact a #BleedingRani.”
PadMan chronicles the life of Lakshmikant Chauhan who is inspired to make low cost pad machines to help women in his village. The movie is based on the life of the Tamil Nadu-based social activist Arunachalam Muruganantham.
