As soon as the release date of Papanasam was announced, small-time filmmakers began complaining that movies featuring leading stars should be released only on festival days. Reportedly, a complaint was filed with the Producers’ Council.

On the other hand, distributors are still unsatisfied with the Uttama Vissain issue. It is said that a meeting with the distributors of Uttama Villain was held on the sets of Thoongaavanam, and they had come to an amicable solution which cleared the decks for Papanasam. Sources say that the actor has agreed to do a film after Thoongaavanam to compensate their losses.
Papanasam, helmed by director Jeethu Joseph stars Kamal Haasan, Gouthami, Niveda Thomas and Baby Esther in the lead roles. Actors MS Bhaskar, Kalabhavan Mani, Asha Sharath and Sreeram will be seen as part of the supporting cast.
Papanasam is the Tamil remake of the Malayalam blockbuster film Drishyam starring Mohanlal and Meena. It is said that the movie is releasing in around 600 theatres across Tamil Nadu.
