‘Parched’ Director Leena Yadav To Direct ‘Tragic Gay Love Story’ Next

Director Leena Yadav is gearing up to direct Secret Sky. The film is based on the true story of two teenage boys growing up in Iran, where homosexuality is illegal and punishable by the death penalty. It follows the two teens as they’re put in prison, go to trial and pay the ultimate price for their crimes. A female lawyer attempts to fight for their freedom.

Carol Polakoff’s Viewfinder Pictures and Daniel Dreifuss’s Anima Pictures are developing the human rights film, and the project is being promoted as Yadav’s first English language feature. Micah Schraft and Abdi Nazemian are writing the film, which is scheduled for shooting in early 2017.

“This story, though political in nature and about civil rights, must be delivered through the heart,” Polakoff told The Hollywood Reporter.  “Leena has shown that she can make a beautiful film that will not only move viewers, but also deliver a socially impactful punch. She has uncommon courage and passion, and holds nothing back.”

Yadav’s most recent release was the critically acclaimed Parched. The film followed four women as they break free from the shackles of patriarchy and explore what freedom truly means.
