Pariyerum Perumal has been adjudged the Best Film at The Norway Tamil Film Festival. Vijay Sethupati and Trisha Krishnan won the best actor awards for their performances in 96.

First organized in 2010, the Norway Tamil Film Festival, held at Oslo, is aimed at celebrating Tamil movies globally. The first edition of the festival was organized by VN Music Dreams, a production company that produces music, poetry and films.

Lenin Bharat won the best director award for Merkku Thodarchi Maalai which was produced by Vijay Sethupati. Santhosh Narayanan won the best music director award for his work in Vada Chennai and Pariyerum Perumaal.

Last year, Joker was adjudged the best film while Lakshmi Ramakrishnan’s Ammani won the award for the best movie on social awareness.

Vijay Sethupati retained the award for the best actor which he had won last year for his performance in Dharma Durai. Vijay Sethupati’s award for 96 is only one among the many accolades the movie has been receiving. Recently Trisha won the award for the best actress at the Behindwoods awards.

Directed by cinematographer turned director C.Prem Kumar, 96 is a story of two childhood sweetheart, Ram and Jaanu, who meet years later during a school reunion. Released in October, the movie was appreciated by critics and audiences alike. The movie is already set to be remade into many languages.

Pariyerum Perumal which won the best film award has been directed by Mari Selvaraj, a former associate of director Ram. Starring Kathir, Anandhi and Yogi Babu, the movie talks about the caste system prevalent in the country. The movie was recently screened at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI).

Pariyerum Perumaal has been produced by Pa. Ranjith under his banner Neelam Productions. He has directed movies like Kaala and Kabali which has dealt with social issues.
