Directed by cinematographer turned director C.Prem Kumar, 96 is a story of two childhood sweetheart, Ram and Jaanu, who meet years later during a school reunion. Released in October, the movie was appreciated by critics and audiences alike. The movie is already set to be remade into many languages.

Pariyerum Perumal which won the best film award has been directed by Mari Selvaraj, a former associate of director Ram. Starring Kathir, Anandhi and Yogi Babu, the movie talks about the caste system prevalent in the country. The movie was recently screened at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI).

Pariyerum Perumal speaks about caste politics which isn’t confined to Tamil Nadu alone. The movie reflects the pain of the Indian society as a whole. Being viewed by a larger Indian audience at a film festival means it reaches out to those many more people which makes me glad,” the director had said about the movie’s inclusion in the festival.

Pariyerum Perumaal has been produced by Pa. Ranjith under his banner Neelam Productions. He has directed movies like Kaala and Kabali which has dealt with social issues.
