Parvathy Nair Talks About Uttama Villain

Model and former Miss Karnataka, Parvathy Nair will be playing a key role in Uttama Villain. She plays the love interest of Kamal Haasan’s son in the flick. Recounting the bizarre incident that led to her being a part of the film, Parvathy said, “My pictures were sent to the Uttama Villain team by someone whom I didn’t know. I was shooting for an ad in the place where Uttama Villain was also being filmed. Somebody phoned and called me for an audition.” The actress thought that she was being fooled and inquired if Uttama Villain crew was indeed in the same house. After verifying, she appeared for the audition the same night. “I was told by the ADs that many actresses had tried for my role. I was pleased to learn that I was chosen after Kamal Haasan saw many other artistes. To me, being selected for the role in itself is a great achievement. And I have heard that Kamal Haasan is choosy about his cast.” The day after the audition, she was asked to join Gauthami to pick up clothes for herself. “That’s when I got to know that I made it. Everything still looks surreal,” laughed Parvathy.

An engineer by profession, Parvathy quit her desk job to satiate her creative needs. From doing street-plays to being the face of many popular brands, the young actress balanced acting and modelling. “The studious and tomboyish student that I was, my parents were unhappy with my decision. And I had to make opportunities for myself since nobody in my family works in cinema.” When she bagged the Best Debutante award from SIIMA for her performance in the Kannada film Story Kathe, her love for acting was reinstated. “My parents started recognising my efforts as they watched more of my work.”

Despite being nervous about working in a big project like Uttama Villain that has many senior artistes, Parvathy declared that she enjoyed the creative freedom. “While shooting, Kamal Haasan always explained the idea behind every scene. I had the liberty to perform in my own way and I could also improvise when I delivered dialogues. That space to explore mattered a lot to me,” she observed.

Directed by Ramesh Aravind, Uttama Villain features Andrea, Pooja Kumar, Parvathy Menon of Maryan fame, Jayaram and Urvashi. Thirrupathi Brothers produces the movie and Ghibran composes music.
