At a recent event held at St. Teresa’s College for Women, Ernakulam, actress Parvathy revealed that she had been a victim of online harassment. “I have had encounters with online predators and stalkers. I have experienced everything that could make me someone else. I am sure I will have to face such situations in future too,” she said to the students. The actress went on to insist that women be aware of such traps and careful with the information they share with strangers on social media. She also said that young women should heed the advice of parents and other elders of the family; that they must be patient while listening to them and take their advice in the right spirit. Ernakulam MLA Hibi Eden was also present at this event.
The actress had also acted/narrated in a short film on online harassment, called Bodhini in 2014.

The actress is known for her bold opinions on issues of gender, casteism and stereotyping women in cinema. She was initially referred to as ‘Parvathy Menon’, but she made sure that people correct themselves, saying “I don’t like to be called Parvathy Menon. Menon is a name that was added by a journalist because I am a Keralite. My family name is Parvathy Thiruvoth Kottuvata. Personally, I feel that caste names don’t define a person.” Parvathy echoed those opinions here. She feels that it’s not caste names, but a person’s upbringing and character that matters. “I realised that and I wanted to practice that in real life,” she said.
Parvathy had quite a good year in 2015, with films like Ennu Ninte Moideen and Charlie bagging all the major awards. This year, she is expected to have a couple of releases, namely, director Vasanth’s Sivaranjiniyum Innum Sila Pengalum, and editor Mahesh Narayanan’s debut film in Malayalam.
