The film, Bhansali’s tenth movie as director, marks his reunion with Salman Khan after a gap of two decades. The director-actor duo, who will be jointly producing the film, last collaborated on Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, after which Khan had done an extended cameo in Bhansali’s Saawariya.
Talking about the movie, Bhansali was quoted in a report as saying: “I’ve been working on it for the last year-and-a-half, starting three months before Padmaavat released, to take my mind off things that were happening at the time. I wrote and reworked till I felt it was ready, then, went to him. It’s my 10th film, I want it to be my best.”
He also said that Inshallah would be different from his other movies. “It’s a younger film, the kind I’ve wanted to make for a long time after all the dark, intense, over dramatic ones. Life is not only about dark nights, it’s also about beautiful, sunshiny mornings. It’s a new chapter for me as a filmmaker,” he added.
Reports about Salman Khan collaborating with the Ram Leela director first emerged in February. Uncertainties loomed large over the female lead. Priyanka Chopra, while appearing on Koffee with Karan, revealed that she was in talks with the director for a movie fuelling speculations about her participation in the project.
Simultaneously, reports emerged suggesting that both Bhatt and Deepika Padukone were being considered for the role. Though Alia Bhatt’s participation in the project has been confirmed through a tweet by the actress, rumours say that she will be playing Khan’s sister in the movie, thus making room for another actress.
I was 9 when I first walked into Sanjay Leela Bhansali's office, all nervous and hoping and praying that I would be in his next film. It's been a long wait.
