The film’s first look poster was released by Sunny Wayne and a few other actors on their social media handles on Saturday. Produced by Gokulam Gopalan under the banner of Sri Gokulam Films, Pidikittapulli’s screenplay and dialogues are written by Sumesh V Robin.

Speaking about the film’s plotline, Jishnu said that the Pidikittapulli’s entire story happens in a span of a few hours- between the evening one day and early morning the next day.

Pidikittapulli loosely translates to–the most wanted person who is absconding. The story is a case of mistaken identity involving two people and follows a group of people who kidnap the wrong person,” he said adding that actor-director Major Ravi and his brother Kannan Pattambi play the two characters whose identities get mistakenly swapped in the film.

Jishnu said that Sunny plays the role of a junior architect who works under a big businessman played by Major Ravi. He falls in love with the businessman’s daughter played by Ahaana. The film also features Mareena Michael, Shaiju Kurup and Anoop Ramesh among others. Ahaana and Mareena have both sung one song each in the film. The music is composed by PS Jayahari who composed the songs for Fahadh Faasil starrer Athiran.

On opting for a digital premiere, Jishu said that the film’s shooting and other post-production work were completed in 2019 and they had initially planned to release it in May 2020. In the wake of Covid-19 induced lockdown, they had to wait till the theatres reopened in January 2021. “However, since there was a slew of the backlog of films lined up for theatrical release, our film’s release was yet again delayed and then the second wave of Covid-19 hit the country. So it was a tough call for us. But later we decided to opt for a direct OTT release considering the need for happy-comedy films amidst the thriller films that have been releasing lately,” Jishnu said adding that the date of the film’s release on JioCinema is yet to be finalized.

Jishnu also noted that the decision to make a comedy genre film was inspired by director Priyadarshan’s old crime comedy films. Before making his debut feature film, Jishnu completed a diploma in cinematography at Mindscreen Film Institute, Chennai, and had directed, shot and edited a short film titled Darbe Guje in 2016. He has also assisted directors Rajesh Nair, Chandru Manickavasagam and Rajiv Menon.
