The teaser of Pon Manickavel is out, and it promises to be an intense action-thriller. Prabhu Deva plays the role of a cop for the first time in this film, directed by AC Mugil. Actress Nivetha Pethuraj plays the female lead.
The teaser starts with a woman shouting, “He told he will murder in just 12 hours. What are you going to do?” Then comes the introduction of Pon Manickavel IPS, a tough police officer who gives the impression that he’s fighting for justice. This is followed by a few action sequences, romance with Nivetha Pethuraj, and a Prabhu Deva who is partying. The teaser assures a movie with all commercial elements.
Pon Manickavel also stars director Mahendran, Suresh Chandran Menon, and Bijesh, the grandson of legendary actor Nagesh. D Imman is the music composer and KG Venkatesh is the cinematographer. It is produced under the banner of Jhabak Movies.
Prabhu Deva was last seen in Charlin Chaplin 2, starring opposite Nikki Galrani. He is currently working on Devi 2 in Tamil, Street Dancer in Hindi, Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham in Malayalam. His movie Yung Mung Sung also awaits a 2019 release.
Nivetha Pethuraj who made her debut in Oru Naal Koothu in 2016, was last seen in Thimiru Pidichavan starring opposite Vijay Antony. She is currently working on Venkat Prabhu’s directorial Party, and Ezhil’s directorial Jagajala Killadi. She is also working on the Telugu film Brochevarevarura.

Director AC Mugil debuted in 2010 with the movie Kandaen starring Shanthnoo Bhagyaraj and Rashmi Gautham. The film was an average hit. He worked with Prabhu Deva in the films Pokkiri and Villu as an assistant director. In an interview, AC Mugil said Pon Manickavel was inspired by real life IG Pon Manickavel. He is the key person who investigated cases of idol theft in Tamil Nadu.
