Priyadarshan and his long-time collaborator Mohanlal earlier announced a tale on the life of Kunjali Marakkar, the Muslim naval chief (of the Zamorin), and recently panned over the major cast of the film.
Titled Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham will be a historical drama. The makers claim that the movie will be the most expensive film ever made in Malayalam. This big-budget film will be jointly produced by Antony Perumbavoor, Confident Group and Moonshot Entertainment.
According to a report from The News Minute, speculations are rife regarding Nagarjuna being a part of this project. Previously, Nagarjuna and Priyadarshan have worked together in Nirnayam, a Telugu version of the Priyadarshan original in Malayalam, Vandanam.
Rumour has it that two other cast members of the film are Suniel Shetty and Pranav, Mohanlal’s son. Shetty, who has worked previously with Priyadarshan, made a cameo in Mohanlal-starrer Kakakuyil. Pranav made his Malayalam debut as a lead in the film Aadhi, earlier this year.

While talking to Onmanorama, Priyadarshan said the film will see people who worked behind Kaalapani also be a part of this venture. “I called Santosh Sivan too. When I asked him about Kunjali Marakkar he said he hasn’t committed any movie this year.”
Kaalapani, directed by Priyadarshan, had Mohanlal in the lead role. The film was also a period drama recounting the history of a pre-independent India struggling to achieve freedom. Incidentally, as reported earlier, Sivan has announced his version of the story of the Zamorin with Mammootty as the lead. Sivan worked with Priyadarshan in several hit films.
