Responding to these allegations, Thanu said: “The case has been filed and arrest warrant has been issued for money that I never borrowed.”

David, a theatre owner from Nagercoil, filed the case against Thanu at a civil court for fraud. David claimed that since he incurred a loss exhibiting Thanu’s film Thirumagan in 2007, he’d demanded Rs 2 lakh as compensation.

When Thanu did not comply with the demands, David moved the principal subordinate court at Nagercoil seeking directions to recover the amount with interest.

In 2013, the court ruled in David’s favour, following which he filed a transit and execution petition before the assistant city civil court to transfer the case and recover the amount.

Since Thanu or his lawyer failed to appear at the court for proceedings, the court ordered the Chennai Police to arrest Thanu.

In a press statement, Thanu said,”This is a false case. There has been a tussle between the distributor of my film Thirumagan (2007) and this theatre owner. They have unnecessarily involved my name in this issue now.I have not borrowed any money from this person. He has filed a case against me, who is in no way connected to the case. Am I in a position where I need to con someone of Rs.2 Lakhs?”

One of the top producers in Kollywood, Thanu has produced several successful films including Kabali, Theri and Thuppaaki. He is also the President of the Producers Council.
