Bigg Boss favourites Harish Kalyan and Raiza team up for another modern take on love and romance in Pyaar Prema Kaadhal. The film’s official trailer, launched recently, is a patchwork of amusing scenes from the film, designed to alternatively shock the audience and also leave them wanting. We have Sri, the new-age boy who resists familial pressure in all his endeavours. He wants the modern girl (played by Raiza). We know she’s not a ‘kudumba ponnu’ (that’s what Sri’s mom wants) because 1) she is seen holding a beer bottle 2) she gulps down said bottle with elan (which also happens to be the director’s name) and 3) she says ‘Fuck You’.
Low-key man vs high-maintenance woman is a plot device that has been used in every romantic comedy ever. The trailer suggests that the central plot here is the same as well.
The trailer is made for the Insta generation, who wants a punchline for everything. It is modeled along the lines of the memes that pit what you want versus what your mother wants. Its attempts to keep up with the times is endearing. In an almost two-minute trailer, this works. It remains to be seen how the first-time filmmaker translates this into a two-hour plus film.

The music, by Yuvan Shankar Raja, from what little we can see in the film, promises to be the highlight.
With T Rajendar announcing his own version of new-age relationships – Indraya Kaadhal Da, it will be interesting to see which film hits it off with its target audience. That is, if they can take their hands and eyes off their smartphones.
