Actor R. Madhavan has been issued with a notice from the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court based on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by N. Ganesan, accusing him of letting his land encroach over a water body.

The petitioner, a resident of Balasamudram village of Palani taluk in Dindigul district, Tamil Nadu, filed the PIL stating that on March 16, 2015, the actor bought 1.97 hectares of land in Balasamudram from P. Rajammal. The 4.88 acres of the land was a hindrance to the water channel known as Rajavaikkal, the main source of irrigation in nearby villages Ayyampauli and Balasamudram, the petitioner had said.

It is alleged that the actor’s land not only encroached upon a water body but also encroached on government land. Coconuts and guava saplings are planted on it and electric posts erected on the encroached land, reports say.

In addition to accusing the actor, the petitioner also accused the district collector of inaction in spite of knowledge of this issue.

Meanwhile, the court has directed the petitioner to send a private notice to the actor’s residential address in Mumbai and inform him of the case, scheduling the next court hearing on July 11, 2016.
